How to Pick the Correct Eye Shadow Color for You!

How to Choose an Eye Shadow Color

~ The eye is the jewel of the body. ~  Henry David Thoreau

We usually notice the eyes first when we look at someone. Many women do not know which is the best eye shadow to use. Don't choose a color just because you like it, choose colors that go well with your skin tone and your eye color.

Most people believe you should match their shadow color to their eye color or to their outfit.  Wrong!  You want to choose a shadow color that will compliment your eye color while not overpowering your eyes. You do not want to compete with your eye color and have your shadow become the focus of your eye.

According to Makeup Artist Robert Jones book, looking younger, the following chart will help you select the best shadow color for your eye color.

Blue eyes: golden brown, warm taupe, copper, charcoal and rich raisin

Green eyes: warm brown, rich taupe, dark purple, soft violet and charcoal

Grey eyes: charcoal, cool brown, deep burgundy and charcoal

Brown eyes: golden brown, mahogany dark purple, rich blue, deep green, pewter, charcoal and deep espresso

Keep in mind that dark colors will minimize your eyes, while light shades will make them stand out.

A little color goes a long way. Begin with a little shadow, and gradually increase it to find the amount that flatters you the most. Eye shadow can look a lot darker in its palette, so don't let color intensity keep you from trying a shade you like.

As you age, remember that softer colors are better because darker colors can be harsh and actually make you appear older.

Experiment with different colors to find the best shades for you and do not be afraid to try colors you have never worn before.  Eye shadow palettes are designed to complement different eye colors.  These palettes are a great way to try different looks for both daytime and evening.
